Utu Amtrak Agreement

The agreement, which will come into force on April 1, 2018, provides for a cumulative salary increase of 18.83 percent over the life of the bisse until 2021, plus retroactive pay. It is also an interim 2014 employment services agreement on the BNSF, which allows trains equipped with TPC to work with a single locomotive engineer, with managers transferred to supervisory positions in exchange for better remuneration for conductors and the protection of professional income. The presidents met January 10-11 at SMART TD`s headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, to continue negotiations for a new contract for Amtrak employees represented by the union. With the help of TD Smart President John Previsich and Vice-Presidents John Lesniewski and John England, union officials and Amtrak representatives reached interim agreements for each bargaining group. In 2014, a SMART-TD general committee representing some 6,000 BNSF executives negotiated a preliminary agreement allowing PTC-equipped trains to run on part of the BNSF system with a lone engineer without ladders on defined lines. « Certification and interpretation on certain days remain the obstacles that stop us. I remain confident that with the efforts of our UTU negotiating team, we will be able to reach an agreement that will benefit Amtrak members. Sampson said: « We are continuing negotiations with Amtrak to reach a fair agreement for our members. Certification and interpretation of individual days are important themes for Amtrak conductors and assistant conductors. Copies of the proposed agreement and ratification information will be communicated by the Presidents to the members concerned, along with election documents, which will be prepared and distributed from 15 January.

Any proposed agreement is subject to ratification by members with the right to approve. One day, trade unions and the working class will have to stand up and demand sustainable wages and social benefits. This agreement does not. Its members voted to accept it. Now they have to live with it. Interim agreements must now be ratified by the members concerned, in accordance with the provisions of the UTU (SMART Transportation Division) Constitution. Ballot papers are drawn by mail and the provisional deadline for returning ballots is April 10. If Amtrak maintains its current position, they will violate the Railway Labour Act, Section 2, First. We should not expect us to negotiate blindfolded. The parties are required by the Railway Works Act to make every reasonable effort to conclude and maintain agreements and resolve all disputes.

Amtrak`s obstructionism is not only against the law, it also despises workers and working-class families. For members who lose income because of their service, the agreement represents up to 120 hours of « full pay » pay. Freight BLE, BRS-UTU voted in favour of the dismal agreement. We hope that there will be no model for the industry, but we know that the railways will try to say that is the case. _______________________________BLE UTU, on Freights, have a proposed treaty that can harm us all if they are adopted. It will set the standard for the industry and will have small wage increases and huge increases for health care, especially for the sick. Amtrak staff, represented by the go-769, GO-663 and GO-342 (Conductors, Assistant Conductors and Yardmasters) adjustment committees, voted overwhelmingly in favour of ratifying an interim agreement reached last month.
